Its purpose is to reinforce and stimulate the quality and efficiency of the research activities carried out by its members, and then to integrate some of those activities in research programs of higher complexity carried out at the network level. TRANSPORTNET consists of eight (8) Universities of worldwide reputation for excellency and distinguished scientific contribution to the field of transportation. Besides the University of the Aegean, the other institutions are:
- University of Antwerp (Belgium)
- Université de Lyon (France)
