2nd Chios International Shipping Summit
A Dialogue between Academia & the Maritime Industry
The Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport of the University of the Aegean organized the 2nd Chios International Shipping Summit. The Summit took place on June 20 and June 21, 2025, in Chios and Oinousses respectively, under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy & the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping.
The Summit was addressed to academia society, international institutions, shipowners, and top executives of the shipping sector.
It aimed at creating a unique networking platform for the shipping community to meet, discuss, and share best practices and hands-on knowledge, focusing on current trends and challenges in an ever-changing environment of global shipping. Ultimately, the success of the 1st Chios International Shipping Summit confirmed the necessity of a continuous institutional dialogue between academia and the shipping industry.
The Summit featured key sessions on topics such as Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization challenges, Geo-economics and Shipping, Education and Wellbeing of Seafarers, Trends in European Short Sea Shipping, Sustainability and Coastal Shipping, and more, in order to highlight the way forward and help navigate the evolving landscape of the maritime industry.

21 June 2025Oinousses
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the Summit took place on the island of Oinousses, at the Hall “Maria P. Lemos” of SFO (Google Maps). The transportation of participants from Chios to Oinousses and back, with the ferry OINOUSSAI III, was kindly offered by the Friends of Oinousses Association (SFO).
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the Summit will take place on the island of Oinousses, at the Hall “Maria P. Lemos” of SFO (Google Maps). For transportation, the organizers have arranged a departure from the port of Chios at 08:50 that morning, with the ferry OINOUSSAI III operated by the Friends of Oinousses Association (SFO).
The return trip from Oinousses to Chios is scheduled for the same day, with a departure at 19:00 and an estimated arrival at the port of Chios around 20:00, ensuring that all delegates can catch their evening flights.
