Completing the course successfully, students should be able:
- to establish the relations between trends in the world economy, developments in maritime nations and the evolution of the various merchant fleets
- to demonstrate the impact of important historic events on world shipping
- to analyze the factors which led to the rise and fall of the various fleets
- to interpret the factors underlying the ascent of Greek shipping and the fluctuations of the Greek flag in the world fleet in the post-war period
